The Alphonso mango is a foreign fruit that came to India through Goa along with Alfonso De Albuquerque, the Portuguese explorer and military strategist who led many Portuguese invasions in the 1600s. From Goa, the Alphonso mango travelled to different places like Ratnagiri, other Konkan region and southern side of India as well.

How to Identify Original Devgad Alphonso Mango?


Chemically Ripened Mango
- These mangoes show uniformly yellow colour.1
- Look & feel hard. They aren’t ripened, its a biochemical reaction.2
- Hard on your nose when you smell it. Non aromatic smell.3
- Wrinkled, yet green, means they were harvested immature.4

Original Alphonso Mango
- This Mangoes show gradients in yellows & green color.1
- Look and feel soft if they are naturally ripened in grass hay.2
- The sweet, strong fragrance of Alphonso noticable from distance.3
- Should not show wrinkles. If they are over ripe, they show wrinkles.4
